Mulligan Therapy And Its Values

Mulligan is a concept and a technique in physiotherapy. This is a manual therapy method that was developed by the physical therapist Brian Mulligan from New Zealand. Loosely defined, it is mobilizing a patient with external movements. There are also supportive medicines that can be applied along with the technique which may prove to be more effective for the patient. Mulligan courses are usually different in different regions and countries.
Even though the courses differ slightly, but it ideally follows a series of learning outcomes. All the countries that provide Mulligan concept courses and mulligan technique courses involve valid and logical reasoning by the therapists to apply the method along with self-treatments using it and recording it.
The primary purpose of this concept is to help the patients with injuries at specific body parts and joints such as knees, elbows, wrists, ankles, and many more. If a patient is unable to move due to an injury, the mulligan therapy provides a window of opportunity to the injured person of running that part, and it also broadens their abilities to starting a movement on the said part and moving the elements related to it with more ease. It is also beneficial in case of pain such as neck pain, upper shoulder pain, back pain, lower end pain, etc. the method reduces pain within a short period based on its intensity and severity.
The Mulligan techniques courses consist of several methods to apply to patients. It involves Mobilisation with Movement (MWM), and Natural Apophyseal Glides (NAGS) as well. The course is usually divided into three to four parts, considering the professional's manner of teaching it. There is an essential part of the beginning known as the Introductory course. This part explains Mulligan's necessity, the importance of having a sound reason behind applying it, all aspects of it along with a detailed demonstration on a human being or a dummy.
