Specific Manual Physical Therapy Techniques

Nowadays, there are a variety of manual therapy courses for regulating the muscles of the body before starting any manual physical therapy. There exists a critical process of full body assessment in which the doctor (therapist) does various examinations to check the blood and nerve supply in the affected area and also the bone and muscle assessment to examine the injuries.
Another factor is the situation of the back pain of the patient. Each back pain simulation in particular, and depending upon all the assessment results. The practitioner decides what kind of treatment is to be given so that it helps the patient recover smoothly and swiftly.
The practitioner gives single or a combination of the following types of manual therapy techniques which may help the patient to recover in a better way:
1. Soft tissue mobilization
Muscles and their attachments around the joints play a significant role in the fitness of the body. Due to muscle tension, spasm can be present even if the joint motion is restored. Soft tissue mobilization is a process that helps in breaking up inelastic or fibrous muscle tissue. It moves tissue fluids and relaxes muscle tension. This is done by applying rhythmic stretching and deep pressure. It is generally used to the muscles that surround the spine. A layer-by-layer assessment is done for examining and localizing the area of high tissue restriction. When that area is identified. This restriction is cured by several techniques that comprise placing a traction force on the tight space. Which focuses on restoring the tissue area and its normal texture to reduce the pain.
2. Strain-Counter strain
Strain-Counter strain is a unique technique that helps to correct abnormal neuromuscular reflexes. These reflexes cause structural and postural problems. The therapist starts with finding the right and comfortable position. Then the therapist holds the person in that position for 90 seconds, during which mild stretching is done to induce asymptomatic strain. The average level of tension helps to set the stage for the healing of muscles. This technique is gentle and used by a vast number of therapists all over the world. Strain-counterstrain can be tolerated quite well as it gives the patient the utmost comfort while treatment even in the acute stage.
3. Joint Mobilization
As the name suggests, this technique excels in the mobilization of joints. Some cases are there where the back muscle is pulled somehow, and patients are instructed to cure it in various ways like ice, soft tissue mobilization, and rest. But these ways are not capable of giving the permanent solution to the problem. Joint mobilization loosens up that joint which gets restricted and increases its range of motion. It helps the patient by providing low speed and high amplitude movement into the barrier, which, in turn, helps in moving the actual bone surfaces on each other. This procedure helps to move bone surfaces in the way that the patients cannot do themselves. This is a painless treatment and provides comfort to patients.
4. Muscle Energy techniques
Muscle Energy techniques have been designed to mobilize those joints which are restricted and also helps to lengthen shortened muscles. Therapists use this technique on patients by utilizing a voluntary contraction of muscles. By applying a distinctly controlled counterforce from a specific direction in a particular position, therapists start this process, followed by 3–5 more contractions. This process is repeated two or three times or more according to the condition and comfort of the patient. The patient can easily resist muscle energy, and this process does not stress the joint avoiding any additional injuries.
5. Maintaining Back pain relief
For healing and to prevent any further pain. Back pain patients are prescribed to engage themselves in other back pain relief techniques regularly after they get treated by manual physical therapy. Maintaining back pain relief for an extended period includes exercises, stretching, and low-impact aerobic conditioning. Also, it comprises a set of use that the patient can do by himself. The main goal of this technique is to prevent the pain to come back and to perform regular activities for the flexibility of muscles.
